There is a whole study of technology and history. Many scholars have pondered various historical and philosophical aspects of technology, and there are many scholarly terms that describe a variety of concepts. For example, there is the question of whether technological progress happens on its own as a result of a driving force or tendency that humans cannot control. There is also the question of whether technological progress is always good, and whether or not it always counts as good progress. A number of questions about specific things exist. For example, why did some groups of people come up with certain technologies when others didn’t? Why did the Chinese invent a certain type of simple firearm when no one else did? Why were the Europeans able to take that idea and run far with it when no one else did?

There is so much variety in the world of technology. The selection of technology is so vast and there are countless technologies that prop up other technologies. There are countless manufactures, each one manufacturing something different. For example, you can find a pcb manufacturer, a clothing manufacturer, a chemical manufacturer and a machine manufacturer. There are manufacturers for all sorts of industry-specific bits and pieces that you may have never heard of. The internet makes it really easy to get one’s hands on a huge variety of technologies.

As new technologies are produced, large disruptions happen in the world of technology, as well as in various work fields. For example, when a new piece of technology is created, there might be a larger need for other technologies that are needed to make that one piece of technology run properly. The production of these other technologies, as well as the technology, itself, may lead to more jobs and specializations. The invention of a technology may result in a need for professionals who are able to fix, operate and/or make that technology. As some technologies become obsolete, people may lose their jobs. If an addition or update is made to a piece of technology, professionals might find that their current base of knowledge has become outdated. Professionals in such situations may face a steep, upward learning curve when it comes to learning about newer and more relevant technologies.

As mentioned above, there is an argument about whether technological progress is good or not. The only answer to this question is that it is equally good and bad, and whether it is more bad or good depends on the situation that you are talking about. For example, if you are talking about a person surviving cancer because of advanced diagnostic techniques and surgeries, then it is quite evident that technological progress is great. However, when you are talking about technologies that result in pollution and dumping, then the bad side of technological progress shows it ugly face. One can say that technology makes people lose jobs because of automation. However, one can also say that technology results in more jobs as more professionals are needed in new niches.
